Mcap of 4 of top 10 firms falls by Rs 56,006 cr, HDFC twins falls steepest

Four of the top 10 valued firms together lost Rs 56,006.15 crore in market valuation last week, with HDFC twins taking the biggest hit. Last week, the 30-share BSE benchmark fell by 58.15 points or 0.09 per cent. While HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, HDFC and Bharti Airtel faced erosion in their valuation, Reliance Industries, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), ICICI Bank, Hindustan Unilever Limited, ITC and Infosys were the gainers, with a combined addition of Rs 44,540.05 crore in their market capitalisation (mcap). Shares of HDFC twins fell sharply on Friday amid reports that the merged HDFC entity could see significant fund outflow. The valuation of HDFC Bank tumbled Rs 34,547.61 crore to Rs 9,07,505.07 crore, the most among the top 10 firms. HDFC's mcap eroded by Rs 13,584.9 crore to Rs 4,95,541.41 crore and that of Bharti Airtel fell by Rs 6,356.46 crore to Rs 4,39,153.22 crore. The market capitalisation of State Bank of India declined by Rs 1,517.18 crore to Rs 5,14,370.01 .

Cyber alert against Royal ransomware that attacks health, education sectors

The Indian cyber security agency has issued a warning against "Royal ransomware" virus that attacks critical sectors like communications, healthcare, education and even individuals and seeks pay-off in Bitcoins for not leaking personal data in the public domain. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team or CERT-In has stated in a latest advisory that this Internet spread ransomware sneaks in through phishing emails, malicious downloads, abusing RDP (remote desktop protocol) and other forms of social engineering. This ransomware, cyber experts told PTI, was first detected in January 2022 and it got active sometime around September last year even as the US authorities issued advisories against its spread. Royal ransomware is targeting multiple crucial infrastructure sectors, including manufacturing, communications, healthcare, education, etc. or individuals. Gold rallies Rs 940 to record high of Rs 62,020; silver zooms Rs 660

Gold prices rallied Rs 940 to a lifetime high of Rs 62,020 per 10 grams in the national capital on Thursday amid strong global trends, according to HDFC Securities. The precious metal had settled at Rs 61,080 per 10 grams in the previous trade. Silver also zoomed Rs 660 to Rs 76,700 per kg. Gold prices in the domestic market climbed to record high following overnight gains in the international market, Saumil Gandhi, Senior Analyst - Commodities at HDFC Securities, said. In the overseas market, both gold and silver were trading higher at USD 2,039.50 per ounce and USD 25.50 per ounce, respectively. Gold prices traded up in Asian trading hours on Thursday as dollar and bond yields dropped after the US Fed signalled a pause in policy tightening from the next meeting after hiking the benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points, Gandhi said.

Sebi cancels licence of brokerage house CNB Commodities in NSEL case

Markets regulator Sebi has cancelled the registration of brokerage house CNB Commodities for participating in illegal 'paired contracts' launched by the now defunct National Spot Exchange Ltd (NSEL). In addition, Sebi has asked the broker to allow its existing clients to withdraw or transfer their securities or funds held in its custody within 15 days. In case of failure of any clients to withdraw or transfer their securities or funds within this period, the broker will transfer the funds and securities of such clients to another broker within a period of the next 15 days thereon under the advice of the said clients. The case relates to the participation of CNB Commodities, which was a member of the NSEL, in 'paired contracts that did not have regulatory approval. The alleged transactions were carried out by the broker on the NSEL platform in 2012-13 and 2013-14. Nexus Select Trust's Rs 3,200 crore REIT IPO to hit capital market on May 9

Global investment firm Blackstone-sponsored Nexus Select Trust will hit the capital market on May 9 to raise up to Rs 3,200 crore through its retail REIT initial public offering (IPO). This will be India's first REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust) IPO backed by rent yielding retail real estate assets. At present, there are three listed REITs on stock exchanges but all backed by office assets. Nexus Selct Trust has filed its offer document with market regulator SEBI for its IPO. According to the offer document, the total size of the public issue is Rs 3,200 crore, which includes fresh issue of units worth up to Rs 1,400 crore and offer for sale (OFS) of up to Rs 1,800 crore.
