Three of top-10 firms lose Rs 1.22 trn in mcap; RIL biggest laggard

The combined market valuation of three of the 10 most valued domestic firms fell by Rs 1,22,852.25 crore last week, with Reliance Industries emerging as the biggest laggard. IT majors Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Infosys were the other two bluechips which faced erosion from their valuation. In contrast, HDFC Bank, Hindustan Unilever, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, HDFC, Bajaj Finance and Adani Transmission were the gainers. Their combined gain was Rs 62,221.63 crore. During the holiday-shortened week, the BSE benchmark Sensex dipped 30.54 points or 0.05 per cent. The market valuation of Reliance Industries fell by Rs 60,176.75 crore to reach Rs 17,11,468.58 crore. The market capitalisation (mcap) of TCS declined by Rs 33,663.28 crore to Rs 11,45,155.01 crore and that of Infosys dipped by Rs 29,012.22 crore to Rs 6,11,339.35 crore. Morgan Stanley Asia buys 940,000 shares of ACC shares worth Rs 215 crore

Morgan Stanley Asia on Friday bought 9.4 lakh shares of cement manufacturer ACC Ltd for over Rs 215 crore through an open market transaction. According to bulk deal data available with the National Stock Exchange (NSE), Morgan Stanley Asia (Singapore) Pte purchased 9,41,557 shares of the company. The shares were acquired at an average price of Rs 2,290 apiece, taking the transaction value to Rs 215.61 crore. Shares of ACC settled 0.43 per cent lower at Rs 2,286.50 on NSE. In a separate transaction, Societe Generale buys shares of multiplex film exhibition company PVR Ltd for Rs 60 crore through an open market transaction. Societe Generale ODI picked up 3,23,158 shares at an average price of Rs 1,861.42 per scrip, taking the transaction value to Rs 60.15 crore, as per data available with the bourse. PVR Ltd shares were closed 0.05 per cent lower at Rs 1,854 on NSE.

SAT sets aside Sebi's ban on former TV anchor Hemant Ghai and his family

The Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT) has set aside a securities market ban on former TV anchor Hemant Ghai and his family imposed by regulator Sebi for fraudulent trading practices. However, the appellate tribunal said that the alleged unlawful gain of Rs 2.95 crore made by Ghais will remain in the escrow account during the pendency of the investigation by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi). In case, the investigation exceeds beyond the timeline of six months given by Sebi, it would be open to the appellants -- Hemant Ghai, his wife Jaya Hemant Ghai and his mother Shyam Mohini -- to move an appropriate application for reconsideration of this direction, the SAT said in its order passed on August 25. The ruling comes after Ghais approached SAT against an order passed by Sebi in July, whereby the regulator disposed of a show cause notice issued to the former TV anchor and his family in February for alleged manipulative trades and decided to re-investigate the matter.

Sebi imposes Rs 3 lakh fine on CB Management Services for non-compliance

Markets regulator Sebi has imposed a penalty of Rs 3 lakh on CB Management Services for delaying the process of issuance of duplicate shares and failing to process transmissions of stocks within the time limit. Also, it had not maintained signature records of shareholders in certain companies. CB Management Services, Registrar to an Issue and Share Transfer Agent, has been asked to pay the fine within 45 days, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) said in an order on Tuesday. The capital markets regulator conducted an inspection of CB Management Services' activities as a Registrar to an Issue and Share Transfer Agent from April 2017 to March 2019. In its order, Sebi's Adjudicating Officer N Hariharan found, "the noticee (CB Management Services) has not maintained signature records of the shareholders, more than 150 instances of violations of timelines for instances of duplicate shares and nine instances of delay in the processing of transmission of shares". Adani Transmission is 9th most valued firm by mcap; LIC out of top 10 club

Adani Transmission has entered the coveted list of top 10 most valued companies, with a market capitalisation (mcap) of Rs 4.43 lakh crore, and holds the ninth place in the overall ranking. On Tuesday, shares of the company jumped 3.05 per cent to settle at Rs 3,971.65 apiece on BSE. During the day, it rallied 4.87 per cent to hit its 52-week high of Rs 4,041.90. The company commanded a market valuation of Rs 4,43,034.65 crore. Shares of the company have jumped a whopping 129.19 per cent so far this year. Sebi overhauls preferential allotment rules for REITs, InvITs

Sebi on Monday overhauled the pricing norms for preferential allotment of units by Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) and Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs). Under the new framework, the pricing formula for allotment of units under preferential issue would be the Volume-Weighted Average Price (VWAP) of weekly highs and lows for 90 trading days or 10 trading days, whichever is higher. At present, the pricing formula in a preferential allotment is the VWAP of the last two weeks or the last 26 weeks, whichever is higher. The preferential issue of units to "institutional investors" not exceeding five will have to be made at a price not less than the 10 trading days' VWAP of the related units quoted on a stock exchange preceding the relevant date, according to two separate circulars.
