Earnings, macro data, global trends to dictate markets this week: Analysts

Markets this week would be guided by the ongoing quarterly earnings, macroeconomic data announcements and global trends, analysts said. The government will release industrial production data for June and inflation data for July this week. The RBI has revised its retail inflation forecast to 5.7 per cent, up from the earlier 5.1 per cent due to price pressure on account of supply constraints and high crude oil prices. With the ebbing of the second COVID wave, the RBI has retained its GDP growth forecast for the current fiscal year ending in March 2022 at 9.5 per cent. Nirali Shah, Head of equity research, Samco Securities said, "This week, all eyes will be on key economic data and ongoing results of companies. Although market sentiment is expected to remain buoyant, specifics on important economic indicators ranging from industrial numbers to inflation rate and manufacturing production will keep markets on their feet." Rupee gains for 3rd straight session, settles at 74.19 against US Dollar

The rupee strengthened against the US currency for the third straight session on Wednesday, closing 9 paise higher at 74.19 (provisional) amid a rally in domestic equities. At the interbank forex market, the rupee opened at 74.16 and hit an intra-day high of 74.08 and a low of 74.24. It finally closed at 74.19, higher by 9 paise over its last close. On Tuesday, the rupee had settled at 74.28 against the US dollar. "It's another fairly slow day in terms of price action, rupee stayed right through the day and heads for the third consecutive daily gains. The reason behind the recent gain is the rally in domestic equities and inflows from series of IPOs this week," said Dilip Parmar, Research Analyst, HDFC Securities. Forex traders said the rupee is trading in a narrow range as investors are awaiting the RBI's monetary policy meeting outcome for further cues. At the interbank forex market, the local unit opened at 74.38 against the greenback and witnessed an intra-day high of 74.30 and a low of 74.43. It finally ended at 74.34 against the American currency, registering a rise of 8 paise over its previous close. On Friday, the rupee had settled at 74.42 against the US dollar. "Despite rebound in manufacturing PMI activities, price action in forex markets remained dull as participants choose to wait and watch ahead of RBI's monetary policy scheduled on August 6," said Dilip Parmar, Research Analyst, HDFC Securities.
