Inflation data, earnings, global cues to guide market this week: Analysts

WPI inflation data for March, quarterly earnings, global trends and foreign fund trading activity are major factors that will drive equity markets this week, analysts said. Investors would also focus on the movement of crude oil prices and the trend in the rupee against the US dollar. Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation data for March would be released on Monday. "Trend in global markets, domestic and global macroeconomic data, crude oil prices and movement of the rupee against the dollar will dictate the trend this week," said Arvinder Singh Nanda, Senior Vice President, Master Capital Services Ltd. HCL Technologies, Hindustan Zinc, Tata Coffee and Tata Communications are some of the major firms that will announce their quarterly earnings this week. "Focus will be on earnings and global markets for cues. On the earnings front, participants will first react to Infosys and HDFC Bank's numbers in early trade on Monday," Ajit Mishra, VP - Technical Research, Religare Broking Ltd, .

Market regulator Sebi sets up framework for upfront collection of funds

Markets regulator SEBI on Thursday put in place a framework for upfront collection of funds from eligible issuers of debt securities to build the Settlement Guarantee Fund of the Limited Purpose Clearing Corporation (LPCC). The eligible issuers would be notified by the LPCC as per its risk management policy, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) said in a circular. LPCC is an entity established to undertake the activity of clearing and settlement of repurchase agreement transactions. Under the framework, SEBI said that an amount of 0.5 basis points of the issuance value of debt securities per annum based on the maturity of debt securities will be collected by the stock exchanges and placed in an escrow account before the allotment of the debt securities. This amount is applicable on a public issue or private placement of debt securities. The stock exchanges would transfer the amounts so collected to the bank account of the LPCC within one working day of the receipt of

NSE to introduce WTI crude oil, natural gas futures contracts from May 15

National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Friday said it will launch futures contracts on underlying WTI crude oil and natural gas in the commodity derivatives segment from May 15. This comes after the exchange, last month, received approval from markets regulator Sebi to launch the rupee-denominated Nymex WTI crude oil and natural gas futures contracts in its commodity derivatives segment. These contracts will expand NSE's product offering in the energy basket and its overall commodity segment. Experts believe that these contracts would provide the market participants with an efficient avenue to hedge their price risk. "Futures contracts on underlying WTI crude oil and natural gas (Henry Hub) would be available for trading in commodity derivatives segment with effect from May 15, 2023," NSE said in a circular. In February, NSE signed a data licensing agreement with CME Group. The pact allows the bourse to list, trade and settle rupee-denominated WTI crude oil and natural gas derivatives .

Sebi imposes Rs 25 lakh fine on 5 entities for non-genuine trades

Sebi on Wednesday imposed fines totalling Rs 25 lakh on five entities for indulging in non-genuine trades in the illiquid stock options segment on BSE. In five separate orders, the watchdog levied a fine of Rs 5 lakh each on Natraj Dealtrade, Queen Tie-Up Pvt Ltd, Octagon Merchants, Noble Tradelink and Nirmal Kumar Chopra HUF. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) had observed large scale reversal of trades in the illiquid stock options segment of BSE, leading to creation of artificial volumes on the bourse. It had conducted an investigation into the trading activities of certain entities engaged in the segment on BSE from April 2014 to September 2015. According to Sebi, the five entities were among those who indulged in the execution of reversal trades. The reversal trades are alleged to be non-genuine in nature as they are executed in the normal course of trading, which leads to a false or misleading appearance of trading in terms of generating artificial volumes, Se

National Stock Exchange cautions investors against 'dabba' trading

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Monday cautioned investors against some fraudsters running illegal dabba trading with guaranteed returns to investors. Dabba trading is an illegal form of trading in shares, where operators of such trading rings allow people to trade in equities outside the stock exchange platform. The cautionary statements came after NSE found that the entities -- Shri Parasnath Commodity Private Limited, Shri Parasnath Bullion Private Limited, Faary Tale Trading Private Limited and Bharat Kumar (associated with Trade with Trust) --were providing dabba or illegal trading platform with assured returns. The exchange said that these persons are not registered either as a member or authorised persons of any registered member of the NSE. Moreover, a police complaint has been lodged in this regard. Cautioning investors, NSE asked them not to subscribe to any such scheme or product offered by any person or entity offering guaranteed returns in the stock market as the
